Over 20 womxn makers set up shop at inclusive pop-up in Riley Park

Over 20 womxn makers set up shop at inclusive pop-up in Riley Park by Lucy Lau on June 12th, 2018 at 2:48 PM Over 20 women, femme-identifying, and non-binary makers are gathering at Little Mountain Shop (4386 Main Street) beginning today (June 12) for a pop-up shop celebrating the power and creativity of womxn. As noted by organizers, womxn—which is also the name of the week-long boutique—isn’t a typo. Rather, it’s an inclusive, intersectional term that encompasses a broad spectrum of gender identities, including transwomen, people of colour, and femme/feminine-identifying genderqueer and nonbinary folks. This representation is reflected in the event’s diverse roster, which boasts designers, ceramists, illustrators, photographers, and more, who will be selling everything from ethically crafted clothing, original art, and handmade rope baskets to nontoxic lip-glosses, vegan latte mixes , and reusable pads and tampons. Local kid-friendly collective  Aster + Clove  will join WOMXN’s lineup outside Little Mountain on Main Street’s  Car Free Day  (June 17). Also offered at the pop-up are two product collabs: limited-edition WOMXN-stamped jewellery from Amara Blue Designs , and a specially made candle from local candlemaker and online lifestyle shop Homecoming . Partial proceeds from the latter item will benefit the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre .  In addition, the temporary shop features a feminist window display by Vancouver-based artist Angie Quintanilla Coates, and plays host to a series of workshops throughout the week. These include a traditional plant-medicine DIY , an all-levels yoga class and intersectional-feminism talk , and a storytelling session with local drag queens Maiden China and Muther Kraken. Tickets to the workshops start at $25 online , save for the last event which is by a suggested donation of $5 to $10. Admission to the WOMXN pop-up is free.
